Organ Pipes

Organ pipes are pivotal in producing the organ’s majestic sound. Different types of pipes create distinctive tonal qualities, from soft and flute-like to bold and brassy. Where the pipes in church organs are for the most part made of metal alloy, pipes in organs that need to be transported on a regular basis are almost exclusively made out of wood. For that reason, DECAP has specialized in manufacturing wooden pipes of different types like bourdons, flutes, violins, and reed pipes since the company started in 1902.

Quality & steady supply

To guarantee supply quantity while maintaining high quality we have invested heavily in new production methods. By employing state-of-the-art 5-axis CNC machines and our own PipeCreator software to produce the CNC G-code, we guarantee a level of precision that ensures consistency in every pipe. Our meticulously calibrated CNC machines translates the G-code in tool paths that craft each pipe with exact dimensions and angles, resulting in beautiful pipes that look and sound the part.

After the CNC cutting and gluing all the “dirty” work is done and the pipe is ready for final voicing and coloring. This can be done by our qualified voicers or left to the customer if they want to step in at a certain point in the process.

During the cutting process, CNC machines do not distinguish between beautiful wood grain and knots, so to optimize the cutting process we have chosen Ayous (Triplochiton scleroxylon) for the body. This beautiful wood is extremely stable, has a beautiful grain, and is typically pale yellow in color. It is moderately soft and light has virtually no knots, and can be cut with little wear on the tools. As for foot and mouth parts, we use hand-selected beech wood.

Tailored to Your Needs

Understanding the diverse needs of our clients, we are proud to offer our standard range organ pipes with custom measurements. Every pipe family has a basic similar design, but can vary slightly in measurements. A little thicker for more ground tone, a little thinner if more harmonics are required, higher cut and pipe length for higher pressure and so on.
Our PipeCreator software allows us to change all dimensions of our standard pipe models like inside width/depth, panel thickness and length in a heartbeat. After measurements are adjusted to the customers wishes, the G-code is generated instantly and send to the CNC for immediate manufacturing. This flexibility allows us to offer custom made pipes with short delivery times and exact measurements, providing a solution for many projects when they need supply of quality wooden pipes tailored to the customers measurements with very short delivery times.
